How to Choose the Right Bra Size: A Simple Guide for Women

Premium bralet

Wearing the wrong bra size is more common than most of us think. A band that rides up, straps that dig in, or cups that gap can turn even a beautiful bra into an all-day annoyance. The good news: finding your size is simpler than it looks — and once you do, everything from posture to how your clothes sit starts to feel better.

Why the right size matters

Your bra is the quiet foundation of your outfit and your comfort. A well-fitted bra supports your posture, reduces shoulder strain, and helps tops and dresses fall the way they should. If you have been guessing your size for years, a fresh measure is worth ten calm minutes of your time.

Nariwyn tip: Fit first, fabric second. A gorgeous lace bra in the wrong size will never feel as good as a simple style that holds you properly.

How to measure at home

Use a soft measuring tape. Measure over bare skin or a thin, non-padded bra. Stand straight, relax your shoulders, and breathe normally.

  1. Band size — Wrap the tape snugly around your ribcage, just under the bust. Note the measurement in inches and round to the nearest whole number.
  2. Bust size — Measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping the tape level and not too tight.
  3. Cup size — Subtract band from bust. Roughly: 1 inch = A, 2 inches = B, 3 inches = C, 4 inches = D, and so on.

Brand sizing can vary, so treat this as a starting point. Always check the size chart for the brand you are buying.

Quick fit checklist

  • The band sits level around your back and feels snug on the loosest hook when new.
  • Cups contain your breasts fully — no spillover, no empty gaps.
  • The centre gore (between the cups) sits flat against your chest.
  • Straps stay put without digging in. Most support should come from the band, not the straps.

When to remeasure

Remeasure after weight changes, pregnancy, or every 6–12 months. Your “usual” size is not permanent — bodies change, and so should your bra drawer.
